This engagement took place February 16 to April 27, 2023.
A report to Council will be presented in Fall 2023.
Thank you to everyone who participated.

What's Happening?

The City of Richmond conducts a community-wide study, approximately every five years, to better understand the perspectives of residents on current Community Services programs and services, including parks, recreation, arts, culture, heritage and libraries.

The results of the needs assessment will help the City and its Community Association and Society partners to plan the wide array of services, programs and facilities that enhance community well-being and make Richmond a great place to live, work and play.

Feedback from all Richmond community members is valuable. We want to hear from you –whether you regularly participate in a program at a City facility, enjoy the public art while walking through a park, visit the library from time to time– or even if you have never stepped into a City building before!

Two Ways to Participate in the Survey

Telephone Survey

The City is conducting a telephone survey with the goal of reaching 1,000 residents by March 12, 2023. Oraclepoll Research, a trusted market research firm based in Ottawa, Ontario, will be contacting Richmond residents by phone or text on your landline or cell number.

  • Please take 10 minutes to participate if you receive a phone call.
  • Participation in the telephone survey is completely voluntary.
  • Your contact information is entirely confidential and will not be shared with the City.

For assistance with the telephone survey, please contact Oraclepoll.

Online Survey

An online survey will be open to everyone over three weeks, until March 12th. It should take about 10 minutes.

STEP 1:

STEP 2:
Select the language you would like to use to complete the survey.

The survey closed on Sunday, March 12, 2023.

Join a Focus Group

The City conducted a survey from February 16 to March 12, 2023 – thank you to everyone who participated! The next step is to hold focus groups with Richmond residents who typically participate less often in parks, recreation, arts, culture, heritage and library services. We are inviting residents to discuss what prevents them from participating in programs and services and to help generate ideas for what might make it easier for more people in the community to participate.

What is a focus group?

A focus group involves a meeting of 5 to 12 people who discuss a series of questions led by a facilitator. There are no right or wrong answers as the goal is to understand different perspectives, ideas and experiences of community members.

Join a focus group if you:

  • Live in Richmond
  • Are between the ages of 18 to 54 years, and 55 years of age and over
  • Do not participate as much as you would like in parks, recreation, sport, arts, culture, heritage or library services

Time commitment:

  • 1½ to 2 hour discussion at an in-person meeting

Locations:

  • City Centre Community Centre (5900 Minoru Blvd)
  • Minoru Centre for Active Living (7191 Granville Ave)

There will be eight (8) focus groups in total:

Schedule:

Let us know if the following will make it easier for you to participate:

  • Transportation to and/or from the meeting
  • On-site child minding
  • Language support (please identify language, we will do our best to find interpretation support)

Focus group participants will receive a $20 gift card for use in City recreation facilities across Richmond.

Register

Focus group registration is now closed.

Next Steps

The next step is to analyze the input collected through the surveys and focus groups, summarize research findings, and develop recommendations which will help to inform future planning of programs, services and facilities in Richmond. A final report will be presented to City Council in Fall 2023.
