Richmond residents and interested stakeholders are invited to review information and provide input on proposed options to further limit residential development on farmland.

Have Your Say:

Here's your opportunity to provide us feedback.

  • Review the information in the Document Library section on this webpage and complete the online version of the feedback form below.
  • The City will be holding 3 drop-in style open houses where City staff will be available to discuss the options and answer questions. A printed version of the feedback form will be available. See the Open House Dates section of this webpage for the dates, times and locations.

Your feedback form must be submitted to the City before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018.

Background:

Richmond City Council adopted a number of bylaw amendments in 2017 to better preserve land for agriculture. The bylaws provide new regulations for residential development on the City’s agricultural land.

As part of a six-month review on those bylaw amendments, Council reviewed options to further limit house size (floor area), farm home plate and to consider a maximum house footprint limit on agricultural properties that are ½ acre or larger.

Residents, farmers and other interested stakeholders are invited to share their feedback on how the City can strengthen its farmland housing regulations before Council considers these options. The City also wants to hear from the public on what other levels of government can do to encourage farming activity and reduce speculation of farmland.

In the Document Library on this page, you will find the following (when you click on the documents, they will be copied into your Downloads folder)

  • all the information that will be provided at the public open houses, including all the display boards (full sized for easier viewing)
  • the November 7, 2017 report to Planning Committee
  • the December 19, 2017 report to Council

Please take some time to review them before you complete the survey. All feedback received will be considered in the final report to Council.

Thanks and let's get started.
