Help design artwork for the Steveston Community Centre and Library construction site

The City of Richmond is inviting residents to take part in creative activities to contribute their memories and stories of the current Steveston Community Centre and Library and share their excitement for the new one to create eye-catching and engaging public art.
Richmond artist Lisa Taniguchi will lead a series, which will include:
free hands-on art workshops
fun interactive activities via social media
an on-site display in the lobby of the community centre, where the public can submit their written or drawn responses to fun prompts
Check out the final artwork, which will be installed at the construction site by July 1, 2023, and on display for the duration of the facility’s construction phase.
Three in-person ways to get involved
Attend any of three family-friendly registered or drop-in activities offered at Steveston Community Centre and Library – Multipurpose Room (4111 Moncton Street).
All activities are suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Create your own Steveston postcard that reflects a memory connected to the Steveston Community Centre and Library
Walk-by word cloud - Drop by and write or draw your stories on a large poster
Make a Steveston flag! - Drop by to create your own Steveston Community Centre and Library flag
Thursday, March 30 from 6 to 7pm

About the artist
Lisa Taniguchi is a graphic designer and lettering artist born and raised in Richmond. She has over eight years of experience working as a designer in the tech industry and holds a Bachelor of Graphic Design from Kwantlen Polytechnic University (2014).
Taniguchi was selected for this project from Richmond Public Art’s Urban Infrastructure Artist Roster. This program offers opportunities for local artists from a variety of creative practices to display their artworks in the public realm and transform otherwise undistinguished elements of public infrastructure by incorporating art into everyday life.
About the new facility
The new 60,350 square foot, three-story facility will include two gymnasiums, a fitness centre, community "living room,” library and study areas, as well as several multipurpose rooms for community use. Construction of the facility is scheduled for completion in 2026.
