This could include health services, recreation services, an elementary school, pools, library services, or any other program you may wish to see near child care services.

If the school or community centre can offer some after school programs, so the kids can stay longer at school with volunteers and teacher that would be great. I used to be an elementary school, where the teacher stay really late (5pm or so) and let us stay behind in the classroom and wait for our parents, but not every teacher does that.
Maybe better if parents can create a group at school and they can volunteer and take turns to do it.

As a single mom, I like to plan ahead. My son has been on a waitlist for Youth connects for over 7 years.
Despite being told he's at the top of the list- there seems to be no one 'aging out' of the program.

Childcare is a huge issue especially when the child is a teenager with the mindset of an elementry student. Regardless- the city needs to put a cap on how ling a person can be in a waitlist. 2 years should be the maximum. If a person has been waiting longer, then it maybe time to think about adding another'Youth connection'.

As I work at the bank almost 10 years, I realized that some wealthy new immigrants are free riding the subsidies. They have a few millions in the account, so they choose not to work but they are still applying for child care subsidies because of no income.
This is unfair that the unemployed parents can look after the children themselves. While most of the working class who really need the subsidies for child care are not qualified because they have income. I think the qualifying process should be looking at the assets too.

Based on some of the comments we need the federal government and the provincial government to support childcare, as they do with the school system.

Swimming pool facility, more day care centers, full day preschool programs instead of 2 1/2 hours, after school care that provides art or music or some interests lessons, more free parenting programs.
