19M seems an awful lot of money to save the Phoenix Net Loft. What will it be used for?

marymargaret asked over 3 years ago

The City is in the beginning stages of a public consultation process that will help in determining suitable program usage for the restored building. These options will be presented to Council for review.

The descriptions were very general and lacked detail. I really couldn't get a good idea as to the work being done. Gateway as an example, we attended often, say repairs being made and with the note herein still have no idea what is being done.

    Thank you for your email.

The work at Gateway Theatre includes the following:

    • Fire Safety: Replacement of the fire safety systems and devices and integration with the building ventilation and sprinkler systems.
    • Electrical Systems: Replacement of the aging electrical power and distribution. Replacement of old lights with high performance LED lights.
    • Mechanical Systems: Replacement of major and aging equipment such as the cooling tower, water entry assembly and 27 heat pumps with high efficiency units.

The building envelope as described below is in progress:

    • Building Envelope: Complete refurbishment of the building envelope with new stucco assembly, exterior aluminum windows and entrances.

Why as a tax payer are you wasting so much money ? #1 Fire hall was just finished! I do not want to pay any part of Day Care. If there is so much extra money in Richmond please refund it to the tax payer.

Steve asked over 3 years ago

The child care facility is a turnkey amenity that is provided to the City by the developer.

how can i bid on engineering design services for your building porjects?

ishpreet asked over 3 years ago

We go out to BC bid for engineering design services or ask for 3 quotes directly if the cost is below $75,000 and award. Please provide your contact information and company details. We will complete an assessment, confirm references and possibly schedule a meeting if the experience meets our requirements. Once that is complete, we would contact the firm for potential work and may request quotes for consideration.

In addition, every three years the City invites interested firms to pre-qualify by submitting proposals through a BC Bid public process (last one was issued January 18, 2019). Proposals are evaluated according to criteria determined in the Request for Qualifications process, which relates to their relevant experience, qualifications, references and overall proposal quality. City of Richmond intends to issue a new pre-qualification process in 2022. Please keep monitoring the BC Bid for all official publications, or feel free to follow up with the City closer to that time.
