This engagement project ran from November 15 to December 5, 2021. Thank you to everyone who participated.
Thank you for visiting this engagement page. The City of Richmond is exploring the development of a program to allow food and beverage establishments to apply for an outdoor patio on an adjacent public space such as a sidewalk, on-street parking area, or other public space.
We are seeking input that will inform the development of this program as we continue to support local businesses and the community.
Background
Richmond currently has a temporary outdoor patio program in place.
It was introduced as a COVID-19 economic response and recovery measure allowing restaurants, cafes and pubs to quickly expand outdoor seating, either by using private property, parking lots, or approved space on City property.
This program expires June 1, 2022.
While existing municipal approval processes are in place to consider applications from businesses wishing to pursue permanent patio extensions on private property, a program does not currently exist to consider applications for ongoing patio expansions on public property.

What this means for you
Your input will be used to help the City understand the community's interest in an ongoing public space patio program, identify important aspects of such a program, and inform a recommendation to Council through a future staff report.
