  • Share I recently received a project location map. My house is 7000 Miller road. The map shows both work on Wellington crescent and in our lane way. My concern is that during project operations access to the houses on Miller would be blocked during project operations. Could allowing parking ok Miller road from Templeton to the community center during week days be considered? I can’t think of an alternative. Second. The way the lane has been maintained changed a few years back. Instead of using existing material and regrading it the city just started filling the potholes. Over time the lane bed has risen to to all the extra material being added it’s causing people problems. For me I can no longer open the gate in my back fence. Other neighbors have been getting water in their garages and backyards. Please ensure the lane is returned to previous levels to alleviate these problems. 🙏 Yours Paul Mirko on Facebook Share I recently received a project location map. My house is 7000 Miller road. Thank you for your question.

Phase 6 of the Burkeville Drainage, Watermain, and Sanitary Sewer Upgrades project is scheduled to begin in late Spring, early Summer of 2023. This will include work in the lane behind Miller Road, access to the Miller Rd laneway will only be impacted for a short duration and crews will communicate with homeowners regarding access. The watermain installation in the lane is only anticipated to take 5-7 working days where access will be limited. The City is currently assessing options to accommodate parking in other areas while minimizing impacts to traffic in the area, our traffic department is looking into the possibility of temporary parking on Miller Road. As the construction timeline becomes defined, yourself and other residents will be given ample notice of the construction timeline and the parking solution, once confirmed. The City will also look into adjusting the final grading of the laneway during construction.

  • Share Re South Dyke Upgrade: Prior to implementation have the residents of London Landing been directly contacted to discuss potential negative impacts from this project? Our understanding was that the plan was to build a dyke on the South side of Shady island and that Shady island acts as a breakwater. As a resident in the area I have serious concerns on the physical and mental health impacts of construction noise, vibration, reduction of aesthetics/views and devaluation of the waterfront and other homes in the area. Thank you for your question.

The public engagement for this project has been initiated with its inclusion in the Engineering & Public Works 2023 Capital Project Highlights.  This will continue once the City has developed details of the proposed dike upgrade design concept.  The general public and other stakeholders, including interested parties who are near to this project, will be included in future information sharing opportunities prior to design finalization and construction.  During construction, the City and contractors will mitigate and minimize noise, vibrations and dust and the work will adhere to all applicable Bylaws and regulations.  The construction will be sequenced to allow continued pedestrian and bicycle access through the corridor, while impacts to vehicular traffic will be minimized.

    Thank you for your question.

The Westminster Highway Multi-Use Pathway currently under construction stops at Fraserside Gate, however, pedestrian and cyclist connectivity to Gilley Road is made by a separated sidewalk and bike path continuing south on the west side of Westminster Highway. The Multi-Use Pathway fronting 23031 Westminster Highway (old Fire Hall) as well as the separated sidewalk and bike lane improvements are part of the redevelopment works of new building development in this area. The final paving works for this area have not yet been completed.  Once complete, they will improve the smoothness and ride quality of this intersection, as well as clearly mark the pedestrian and cyclist connectivity to the Westminster Highway and Gilley Road intersection.
