Say no to single-use items. Let's stop unnecessary waste and reduce pollution.

We are seeking public feedback on single-use plastics and other items from Friday, October 18 to Sunday, November 10, 2019.

In July 2019, Richmond City Council completed the first step towards introducing the Single-Use Plastic and Other Items Bylaw 10000, which is intended to ban:

  • plastic checkout bags, including compostable plastic and biodegradable plastic;
  • foam food service ware, including plates, clamshell containers, bowls and cups; and
  • plastic straws, including compostable plastic and biodegradable plastic.

Bylaw 10000 is being reviewed for approval by the BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. We want Richmond residents to provide input on how they are using alternative options such as re-usable bags, straws and cups, and to share their questions and comments on the proposed bylaw. More details about Bylaw 10000 in the important links section.
