Currently, the City of Richmond does not offer a dedicated space for memorialization. This public engagement process is intended to help us better understand community needs and preferences as they relate to the potential for a Memorial Garden in Richmond.
A Memorial Garden could be a place where residents remember and pay tribute to deceased loved ones in a variety of ways. Such a site would typically offer a diverse range of opportunities for memorialization that reflects community preferences and traditions within a serene, contemplative park setting. A Memorial Garden could potentially accommodate above ground interment, burial of remains, and spreading of ashes, depending on the needs and desires of the community. A specific site is not being considered at this time.
The results of this public engagement process will inform recommended next steps that will be presented to Council for consideration.
