Connecting people and pollinators

Richmond’s Nectar Trail is a community-driven initiative that helps connect isolated pollinator habitats through a network of small “stepping stone” gardens. These gardens give bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects places to rest and feed as they move across the city.

How It Works

Residents, businesses, and institutions can volunteer to host a minimum 1-square metre pollinator garden on their property. Participating gardens:

  • Use drought-tolerant plants that bloom from spring to fall
  • Avoid the use of pesticides
  • Help expand habitat for native pollinators
