This project has concluded. It ran May 27 to June 19, 2022. Thank you to everyone who participated.

What’s happening?

The City is seeking feedback to inform the renewal plan for the Steveston dog off-leash area, which is part of Steveston Community Park. The existing off-leash area has been serving the community over the past 20 years since it was first implemented as a pilot project.

To accommodate the growing number of dogs in the area and address current maintenance issues, the Steveston dog off-leash area is anticipated to be upgraded in Fall 2022. The renewed dog off-leash area will remain in its current location and continue to provide separate fenced areas for small dogs.

Based on community feedback in recent years, the following could be improved to help design a safe, comfortable and engaging park space for people and dogs:

  • Lack of dog play features
  • Poor drainage in certain areas
  • Dusty, muddy, deteriorating surface materials
  • Lack of dog off-leash area amenities including a drinking fountain and seating

A concept plan has been prepared by staff to address these issues. Please share your thoughts by 11:59pm on Sunday, June 19 to help us create a more comfortable and engaging space. Everyone is welcome to provide feedback, whether you own a dog or not.
